Panel: Equal Participation To The Cultural Life
For the first time this year, the Accessible Film Festival will host a panel on how accessibility is defined in the context of film festivals in Turkey, UK and Germany and the right to participate in cultural life. The panel will bring together Becky Bruzas - Director of Oska Bright Film Festival, Lizzie Banks - Producer of Oska Bright Film Festival, David Parker - Creative Producer of Oska Bright Film Festival from UK, Andreas Grützner - Director of KLAPPE AUF! Short Film Festival and Katrin Mersmann - Co-director of KLAPPE AUF! Short Film Festival from Hamburg in Ankara. Moderated by Ezgi Yalınalp, programme director of the Accessible Film Festival, the discussion will focus on accessibility solutions designed by these festivals, the common problems faced by festival organisers&audience, and if it’s possible to develop a common strategy around those problems and the possibility of establishing a network of accessible film festivals operating in Europe in the long term. The discussion will put the spotlight on the portrayal of disability in the Turkey, Germany and UK screen culture as well.
The panelists, with their diverse experiences, will challenge the audience to think about diversity, accessibility, social inclusion in art and culture. Non-profit and community-based organisations in Ankara will be invited to the panel to join the discussion. Before the panel, ZEBRA, a selection of short films curated by Oska Bright and Klappe Auf! Film festivals will be screened with Turkish audio description, Turkish sign language and detailed subtitles.
The panel is organised in cooperation with the British Council under the framework of the Women and Leadership in Arts and Culture Programme.
