Looking at world cinema through the Kaleidoscope

As every year, the Festival continues to include important productions of world cinema in its program. In the Kaleidoscope selection, 5 films about different cultures and lives will be waiting for the audience. Brief History of a Family:

The film, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, screened in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival, and brought the director Jianjie Lin the Best Director Award at the Beijing Film Festival, is about a family who is under the influence of their teenage son's mysterious friend.

The Empire:

French director Bruno Dumont, who won the Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival, brings the battle between good and evil that begins with the birth of a baby to the screen with an entertaining interpretation of the science-fiction genre.

Woman of...:

Set during Poland's transition from communism to capitalism, award-winning directors Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert's film follows Aniela Wesoły's journey to find personal freedom as she confronts the difficulties in her family life and the complex attitudes around her.

Death is a Problem for the Living:

Teemu Nikki, one of the prolific directors of Finnish cinema, won the Best Supporting Actor and Best Music awards at the Beijing Film Festival. With dark humor, the film follows Risto, who struggles with gambling addiction, and Arto, shaken by the news that 85% of his brain is missing, as they search for a new beginning.

Songs of Earth:

Director Margreth Olin's film, which won the Best Cinematography Award at Nordic Docs last year, depicts the nature of Oldedalen and the stories of those who have been living there for generations. The film also seeks answers to many questions about man's relationship with nature.
