This year's National Feature Film Competition, which features the highly anticipated productions of recent Turkish cinema, includes Mete Gümürhan's Belonging (Beraber), Aslı Özge's Black Box (Kara Kutu), Büşra Bilginer's On the Shore (Kıyıda), Aslıhan Ünaldı's Afloat (Suyun Üstü) and Nehir Tuna's Dormitory (Yurt).
The jury of the Competition this year includes film critic Evrim Kaya, director Somnur Vardar and academician Ali Karadoğan. You can find detailed information about the jury members here.
The jury members will select the winners of the Best Director and Jury awards, along with an award whose category will be determined by them, while the audience will determine the winner of the Audience Award with the votes they cast after the screenings, as they do every year. The audience will also be able to cast their votes with ballots printed in Braille. The winners will be announced at the award ceremony to be held at the Goethe-Institut on Thursday, June 13 at 19:30.
Belonging (Beraber)
Directed by Mete Gümürhan, the film focuses on the trauma Zeki, born and raised in Rotterdam, experiences with the loss of his mother and his father's decision to move to Turkey.
Black Box (Kara Kutu)
Directed by Aslı Özge, the film portrays the anxiety and fear among the residents of an apartment building trapped in a courtyard.
On the Shore (Kıyıda)
Directed by Büşra Bilginer, the film tells the stories of four sisters who come together after years.
Afloat (Suyun Üstü)
Directed by Aslıhan Ünaldı, the film centers on a broken family's efforts to reconnect on a sailing journey.
Yurt (Dormitory)
Directed by Nehir Tuna, the film tells the story of 14-year old Ahmet's experiences amid the political polarization in Turkey in the late 90s.
